Feeling overwhelmed? What should you focus on first? Let’s quickly run through a few bits to avoid any nasty surprises…
So you are feeling overwhelmed – tell me, what commitments have you got booked in already? Start by checking your calendar. Additionally, check your other calendar too. Additionally, check your messages. Have you missed anything out? If so, get them on your main calendar. This includes family stuff like childcare commitments or taking your Nan to the hospital.
What deadlines have you agreed to? Are THEY on your calendar? For example, you may not be in the meeting, but do you have to provide anything to anyone to meet the deadlines they have or to launch a product or service?
Then, think about preparation for those meetings. Has everyone replied? After all, there’s no point attending a meeting if no one else is there, or if it’s not useful. Therefore, consider what you’ll need for the meetings and write a list. How many copies of each document are necessary?
Also, set reminders on your main calendar at least a day before. This way, you can ensure you’re prepared for meetings with research, handouts, or links ready to go.
If you’re presenting off-site, keep a USB drive handy. That way, you have a backup of your presentation. 💡

Have you let anything slide? Moreover, if you manage staff yourself, just take note of their workloads (maybe they too are feeling overwhelmed!). Make sure you look after your staff. Simply, having a brief chat may suffice, for instance, ask them if they have everything they need to do their job. If not, ask them to jot any requests or issues on an email and book in a time to discuss it with them properly.
I know, this feels like a whole other job and your calendar probably looks chocca… however, it will make your brain less stressed and you will feel far less overwhelmed.
