Do you know who this is? Yep, that was me. Age 11 on my first holiday abroad. No pouts, no straighteners, just big dreams, and I wanted to grow up to be a dance choreographer, a hair stylist or a gorilla. I knew the gorilla option was out of bounds but I could always dream 🦍.
Well, I worked in a hairdresser briefly. Furthermore, I danced for years and I taught little kids to dance for a short while too. My love for bright colours and bold fashion choices never changed and I own an oversize gorilla plushie who I adore. He’s called Gordon.
Fast forward to today. How did it work out?
Looking back, I realise that my younger self wasn’t too far off. I loved music and I loved people and being helpful. I had the privilege of working in radio, sound engineering, music management and promotion and even ran a music store. I’ve supported start-ups, particularly within the creative industries. What’s more, I loved going to work in a building where people were being arty and rushed past you in the corridors in dance leotards carrying crazy props at 8 am.
Additionally, I worked for a union, supporting people through IT, education and administration. I worked on websites and did security. I was even a DJ for a while. I’ve also worked in big buildings in posh suits and I have met some crazily interesting and inspiring people along the way.
A good connection is so important to me and working with people who are unapologetically themselves is where I feel most at home. I’ve never lost my passion for learning either.
I love connecting with interesting and inspiring individuals and if there’s one thing I value most, it’s genuine connections. Working with others who challenge and motivate me is the best part of my journey. All in all, I think I’d be proud of my achievements, which is quite a nice thing to be able to say.
If you want to connect or work with me, go ahead and reach out. I’ll look forward to having a chat and finding out about you and where you’re heading.
